Customers looking to buy technology services can now buy services quicker and more flexibly through direct award.
Our Technology Services 2 (RM3804) agreement now has the added benefit of offering customers the option to buy through a direct award procurement option.
Initially, direct award will only be available for the 4 service groups under lot 3 (Operational Services) on the Technology Services 2 agreement. These are:
End User Services
You know when your computer doesn’t work and you ask IT to come and have a look? That’s an end user service (you’re the end user). This also includes helpdesk style support for software and hardware.
This covers support for “private” Data Centres (not “public” which is cloud) from support of the servers to security (firewalls, virus protection). If you are managing an IT estate there’s hardware that needs to be tracked, software that needs to be kept up to date and all sorts of policies around security and who is allowed access to what. That’s Operational Management. It includes managing the lifecycle of other IT Contacts.
This includes making sure your building networks (routers, switches, firewalls etc) are managed (can you connect to the WiFi?) on an ongoing basis and also asset tracking for your hardware and software.
Application and Data Management
This lot allows for the management of various data related services. Making sure databases are up to date and the data is available to be consumed by other services. It also allows for the maintenance of applications / software and making sure that software remains available. You can also get DevOps management to manage the release of application and software updates.
If proven successful, direct award will be rolled out to the other lots.
There are currently no restrictions on the contract value for direct award, however customers should consider the following factors when looking to procure via this route:
- value for money
- number of suppliers who could meet your needs
