Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) procurements triumph with innovation award win

Teams in CCS and NHS Digital are celebrating after being awarded the Innovation Award at the Yorkshire and Humber Skills Development Commercial Awards for their work in the creation of the new marketplace for Health and Social Care Network (HSCN) connectivity services for NHS organisations.

The project saw the introduction of a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) for HSCN, which included disaggregation from a single supplier to twenty accredited suppliers, replacing 14,000 NHS organisation’s BT-supplied lines with a multi-vendor estate. This has resulted in savings of 74% (£47m annual reduction) across 8 centrally-led aggregated procurements compared to legacy pricing. Independent benchmarking has also verified that the prices achieved are very competitive and better than current market rates.

The Skills Development Network is an exciting and proactive NHS focused network who bring together training and development for finance, procurement and informatics staff across the whole of the NHS.

What’s more, the HSCN project has also been shortlisted for a CIPS Supply Management Award, with winners due to be announced in September.
